Top 7 Highest Grossing Movies of 2016
2016 gave us many things. Some people got happiness, some got sadness; Some got success in their goals and some got disappointment, but we all got some awesome movies which made our 2016 awesome. Not just us, but almost every person in the world. Even their producers too because they earned a huge chunk of money from these movies. Let's have a look at seven such movies.
7. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice
Gross: $873.3 million (Worldwide)
This is one of my favorite movies of 2016. I actually screamed like a fan girl after watching the trailer (Though I'm a boy XD). Ok back to the point, this movie earned $873.3 million worldwide. Pretty cool huh! This must have been a big hit, isn't it? Sadly no! :( despite of its hype, this movie failed to impress the audience in its premiere (except me). It only made It only made 50% of its gross domestic on its opening.
However, no matter what people say, I liked this movie, and always will. See it even made its way to top seven! :D
6. The Secret Life Of Pet
Gross: $875.5 million (Worldwide)
Produced by Illumination Entertainment and Universal's in house studios and made by the creators of Despicable me and Sing, this film made $875.5 million. Though Finding Dory was already in the theaters when this movie released, but still it stood tall and put itself in the list of top grossing movies of 2016.
5. The Jungle Book
Gross: $966.5 million (Worldwide)
Again a Walt Disney movie, directed and co-produced by Jon Favreau. It is the remake of 1957's animated film with the same name, The Jungle Book. This movie got really good reviews by its audience worldwide.
4. Rouge One: A Star Wars Story
Gross: $979.9 million (Worldwide)
Rouge one: A Star Wars Story became the highest grossed movie of 2016 in United States and fourth highest in the world. This movie is based on the moments before "Star Wars: Episode 4 the Hope," where some rebels steal the plans to Death Star. It is the first star wars movie not related to the main plot.
3. Zootopia
Gross: $1.02 billion (Worldwide)
Zootopia and Zootopolis (In United Kingdom and some other European countries) was the first film on 2016 to cross $1 billion worldwide. Film was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore and produced by Walt Disney (I know Disney rules :3). This film received very good response from its audience about its animation, humor and also some messages about discrimination and stereotypes. With a billion dollar grossing, it became third highest grossing movie worldwide and twenty fifth highest of all time.
American film institute chose it as one of the top ten films of 2016. This film won the Golden Globe award for best animation and Critics' Choice Award for best animated features, also this movie got nominated for Annie's award for best animated features and BAFTA award for best animated film.
2. Finding Dory
Gross: $1.03 billion (Worldwide)
Finding Dory, the sequel of Finding Nemo came after 13 years. This film was released on June 17 in United States and upon release, it became an example of massive success by Disney, grossing over $1 billion worldwide.
Finding Dory became the first film to break he record of Toy Story 3 (2010) and became the highest grossing animated film of all time.
1. Captain America: Civil War
Gross: $1.15 billion (Worldwide)
Captain America: Civil War is more like a sequel of Avengers rather than Captain America. It has almost all the avengers except Thor and Hulk.
Captain America: Civil War held its world premiere on April 2 in Los Angeles and was released on May 6 in United States. Upon release this movie became a big hit hit and earned over $1.1 billion all over the world, which made it 12th most grossing movie of all time.
